Name of the flower that grows back every 100 years?

I read about this flower that only grows back every 100 years. I think it is a Japanese flower. And photographed only once in 1900, I think.

Some types of bamboo, it is said that flowers only once every 100 years and there are many varieties of bamboo in Japan. Flowering is often followed by dieback.
